Why NHL tiers differ so much
NHL jerseys come in four retail tiers from Fanatics: Authentic Pro, Premium, Breakaway and Practice. They are built differently, from the on-ice Authentic Pro to the fan-oriented Breakaway. The details below come from the NHL and Fanatics launch release of September 2024.
Breakaway: lightweight and affordable
Breakaway is the fan tier, with a more tailored look than other replica jerseys and men's and women's cuts. It uses a soft, breathable and durable fabric and lightweight, flexible heat-applied crests that fold easily.
Premium: a step up
Premium uses sewn-down graphic techniques that visually mimic the Authentic Pro, in a lighter, more comfortable fit.
Authentic Pro: full on-ice construction
Authentic Pro matches the on-ice player jersey specifications: elevated fabrics, an extra fabric layer inside the lower sleeve to reduce wear from the boards, sewn-down multi-layered tackle twill and a 3D embroidered crest and shoulder patches. It is cut, stitched and assembled in the Canadian factory that has made NHL on-ice jerseys for nearly 50 years.
